Job role for music promo

Producer (Alex)

A producer is a person who oversees the media based production. Either employed by a media company or working independently. Producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script; coordinating writing, directing, editing and arranging financing. Producers need to have knowledge of media production and communication, the ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure and strong leadership skills.

I feel that I suit this role quite well as when doing things relating to the film industry, like filming a short film, I was always the producer/director. With my previous knowledge of being a producer, I believe I am one of the best for this role.

Performer (Alex)

Performers entertain others through a multitude of arts, such as music, dance, stage entertainment, and theatre. They are artists who express their talents through recordings or in front of live audiences. A good performer will need performance skills that were built up over many years of being a performer, such as: confidence,

resilience and ability to withstand criticism, be self-reflective, quick-learner, have flexibility and most of all have stamina.

I might not be the best suit for being a performer but since no one on my team would like to be the role, I will fill the gap. Bearing in mind that no one on this team, including me, has any professional experience of being a performer.

Production designer (Alexej)

Production Designers are responsible when it comes to the overall aesthetic of the scene. Production Designers are however responsible for many things such as the Visual Concepts, design the style for the sets, locations, graphics, props, lighting, camera angles and costumes, whilst still working with the director and producer. They’re also responsible for schedules, budgets, and staffing.

This would suit me to contribute to this role as it links heavily to my main role which is the Cinematographer. I will be able to help and contribute with the Director and produce specific locations, props, camera angles, ect… in order for the whole production to work accordingly.

Cinematographer (Alexej)

As of the Cinematographer, they’re responsible for the camera and lighting when producing each scene of the music video. Their job is to contribute with the Director in order to make the actual product. The camera placements are essential as it helps reveal the characters behaviour or their emotional state. Camera movements can also heighten the emotion and

suspense in a shot and moving the camera around with the Actor can add particular perspective.

This would suit me because I am more than capable of using a camera as I already have a good understanding on how to use a camera and its key functions such as the ISO. I will also be able to contribute with the Director and plan out with him in order to get the perfect angle shots and lighting.

Director (Simon)

A music video director is basically the head of the music video in the sense of what the actors will do

where they have to stand and look etc. A director for music can also direct where the cameraman is,

what type of shot they will take, what type of look they are going for in that shot. He can also do direct

dancing if necessary for the music video. Basically he will create a rough outcome for the whole music

video.

Director suits me because I have a vague idea of what's going on and we  have a group speaking well of what we want the finished product to look like. So anyone of us could direct it but I have done directing in the past in a group project that I didn't create and I directed that just fine so I know what is expected of a director and what the director does with the whole crew.

Editor (All)

Since everything else was done now left to do in the music production is the editing. This basically means adding the song which was either previously edited or if not original then just drag the music into the editing track. Then putting all the recordings together having effects etc then the director will look at the finished rough edit and suggest what else to change to make it look like they want it to look.

We would all suit this as we will all make our own versions of the music video. However if we do have to make it only one person editing then i think i am suitable the most as i have edited countless of projects that required one editor and when the product was done the whole team got a good mark so I yet again have a good idea of what's expected from me when it comes to editing and i won't shy away from using challenging edits etc as i want to make this project high quality.
